Just wondering something…is it possible that there is less femslash mainly because most fanfic writers are women who are mostly attracted to men and therefore more likely to want to write sexy stuff about…well…men?

I don’t want to start an argument or anything, I just keep seeing this topic popping up again and again, and I just know that for me…fanfic/slash is about what I think is hot for me personally, and that’s usually stuff to do with men and their manly bodies and the stuff they do with those manly bodies. Sooo…?

I mean, a lot of women love Orange is the New Black and shows like that, and want more stuff on TV and in movies that is centred around women, but don’t necessarily want to read sexy fanfic about these female characters. Awesome characters of various genders and races and sexualities etc. make me super happy and eveything…but I still gravitate towards fanfic with sexy men doing sexy stuff with other sexy men because that’s what gets me hot.

…does that mean I have internalised misogyny?

In a word, no XD We like slash because of the dynamic between *men* (or at least I do, anyway). Again, I’m only able to speak for myself, but slash is about defying stereotypes that aren’t as much of an issue between women, so it’s of less interest to me. And yes, I’m not attracted to women, so I’m less interested in exploring the relationships between them – lbr, we always slash the ones we love, because we want others to love them too 😉

Well, yes…that’s an aspect too. PWPs are porn to me, and then it’s all about the men’s bodies and the sexiness. But longer fanfic is different, more like you say, about exploring dynamics. For instance, I actually ADORE mpreg, mostly because I love that it’s different from a pregnant woman.

I think maybe we just already know about being women, maybe we wanna explore the other side?

Also, yes on the stereotypes. Masculinity is such a fragile thing and we so rarely get to see men being as free with their feelings as women usually are.

I dunno. I just kind of have a problem with the idea that femslash is less popular because we all secretly hate ourselves…or something.

I love mpreg too, even though I hate kids and the sight of pregnant women makes me vaguely nauseous XD But again – with mpreg it’s like the boot is on the other foot XD I saw an excellent post just now that points out how invisible homosexual relationships are in films in particular, and I like that slash gives us what mainstream media doesn’t – intimacy between men. Because lbr I’m all about the tru wuv and I HATE lad/bro culture and all that shit, and slash is pretty much the antithesis of it. But I’m not particularly romantic or feelingsy in my own life – it appeals to me a lot more when it’s between men XD

And I think the idea that we don’t write as much femslash because we hate ourselves and we hate women is the biggest load of toss I’ve ever heard XD
