I kid you not. I have this bookmarked and I use it ALL THE TIME.
I go little bit ARGH every time I see people getting this wrong (in fanfic for instance).
Otoh no-one has said lain since about 1850 :/a
You don’t say “he had lain there?” I mean, I guess you could say “he had been lying there” instead. Hmm.
Yeah, lain sounds very very old-fashioned – we’d say “He had been lying” or “He had laid”, haha. Laid has taken over! 😉
