daniil–kvyat–protection–squad:
On this day in 1973, we lost a future world champion. On October 6th, at Watkin’s Glen, François Cevert was killed during qualifying for the United States Grand Prix. The Glen was the scene of François’ only Formula 1 Victory, 2 years before. François’ mentor, Jackie Stewart, retired on the spot after François’ crash, instead of racing in the Grand Prix (his 100th) the next day. The crash also devastated team boss ‘Uncle’ Ken Tyrrell. Had François hadn’t died at the Glen on that day, he would have been World Champion one day. RIP FRANÇOIS CEVERT (1944-1973)
