Am I the the only one who feels like crying with this?
Nope, first time I heard it i had it on replay for three hours and watched the sunset and bawled my eyes out, it was beautiful.
One reason why i like AM so much is their superb lyrics, but the main reason, I’m pretty sure, is because when I hear them… I hear home. I’m from Sheffield, and i can’t tell you what it meant to me as a fourteen year old to hear a band say “nah then, mardy bum” in their song. It’s sumat we say here all the time but you never heard it in music because it was restrictive; it was Yorkshire slang, stuck in one place. And yeah, when I hear Common People, or Don’t You Want Me Baby, I feel happy and proud, but I’ve got to say, those four words… “nah then, mardy bum” always fill me with pride and joy.
The first Arctic Monkeys song I heard was Fake Tales of San Francisco and I was so excited to hear a band namecheck Hunters Bar on the radio! Loved them immediately, haha, and that’s still one of my fave songs of theirs.
