Carl at North Point shopping centre, Hull!

What a surreal experience! Can’t believe we got an opportunity to see him in such a tiny (and unlikely) venue! Me and @jessinthesky got there in good enough time to be on the barrier, so we were about 2 metres away. Incredible views! Here’s a few notes about last night:

– when they were setting up, it became obvious he must have a band with him. I was sure I’d seen Drew lurking around earlier but was like nah, it couldn’t be – but it was! Along with Gary, and Mike Moore
– there were probably about 200 people there, I’d guess, so it was pretty intimate! Didn’t stop people going completely wild for for the Libs songs in the set though, complete with crowd surfing and cider showers
– before Gunga Din he said he “might need some help with the lyrics for this one”, and I assumed he was joking to get us to join in, but he was not, lol. He didn’t know ANY of Peter’s part after the first couple of lines, lol. He offered the audience the mic and just mumbled and laughed at himself
– he also fucked up the intro to DLBITS and turned to the audience laughing at himself, like how many times have you played this song by now…?!
– North Point shopping centre has a pointy glass roof and he said it was “like being on the Pyramid stage, but not really”, lol
– the erstwhile roadie Andy is from Hull, and Carl tried a little experiment, asking us "Can i get a yes?“ Yes! "Can i get a no?” No! “You’re right Andy, they did say ‘Ner’” (To explain for the non-Brits, a stereotype of Hull accents is that they pronounce the o-sound in words like ‘no’ as ‘er’)
– setlist: Glory Days / Deadwood / Wondering / Gunga Din / Victory Gin / A Storm is Coming / What a Waster / Come Closer / Ballad of Grimaldi / Truth Begins / March of the Idle / Don’t Look Back Into the Sun / Gin & Milk / Time for Heroes / I Get Along / Bang Bang You’re Dead – it was so amazing to hear songs I never thought I’d get to hear, like Truth Begins which is one of my faves!
– Carl looked and sounded great, he was on good form and seemed like he was having a good time, proper getting into it even on the teeny tiny stage. And it was lovely hearing people doing the Seven Nation Army chant with his name ❤
– …And all that for £7.50! I’m not from Yorkshire for nowt, haha
