things english speakers know, but don’t know we know.

WOAH WHAT?

That is profound. I noticed this by accident when asked about adjectives by a Japanese student. She translated something from Japanese like “Brown big cat” and I corrected her. When she asked me why, I bluescreened.

I love English, the language where you can drive on a parkway but park in a driveway. Order in chaos!

Tbf you can rearrange several of those categories and it’s not weird at all, like “green rectangular” is just as acceptable as “rectangular green”. And all languages do similar things – like having a preferred order for “black and white” or “salt and pepper”. The only people who think English is so ~weird and ~difficult are native English speakers, cos we have such limited experience of other languages!
