5. David Devant & His Spirit Wife
6. The Kinks
7. The Small Faces
8. Babyshambles
9. Carl Barat & the Jackals
10. Manic Street Preachers
what was the first song you heard by 6? (The Kinks)
Hmm I imagine it was probably something like All Day and All of the Night, or You Really Got Me, but it’s hard to know cos they’re a band I’ve always known ever since I was a kid cos my dad listened to them
what is your favourite song by 8? (Babyshambles)
Prrrrobably Carry on Up the Morning, heartbreak and all
what kind of impact has 1 left on your life? (The Beatles)
I grew up with the Beatles’ music, I always call them by favourite band almost by default, because I’ve always been surrounded by their music and immersed myself in it. That said, I’ve never really been “fannish” for the Beatles like I have been for a lot of other bands – partly because I’ve just always known and loved them, but also because for me they’re about music, pure and simple. Their music is just so satisfying and enjoyable for me that that’s all I need! It’s sheer admiration and gratitude that they could produce music that makes my ears feel so good, haha.
what are your favorite lyrics by 5? (David Devant & His Spirit Wife)
Devant have written some of my favourite lyrics of all time, clever and witty and, to be honest, songs like Ginger and I’m Not Even Going to Try are highly relatable, haha. But you can’t argue with the genius of Sometimes London don’t seem so appealing/Maybe your lover is living in Deptford, can you?
how many times have you seen 4 live? (Kanjani8)
I hate to say this but I can’t remember! I’m extremely fortunate that I’ve been able to go to Japan and see them at least 10 times, and possibly up to 12 or 13. I think the Jukebox concerts might be my favourite concerts I‘ve ever been to! But I’m happy I also got to see them in some slightly smaller arenas too, as well as the dome shows.
what is your favorite song by 7? (The Small Faces)
Lately it’s I’m Only Dreaming, but I also love The Universal, Tin Soldier, Get Yourself Together, Itchycoo Park… They need more appreciation man!
is there any song by 3 that makes you sad? (Queen)
Oddly enough, when I saw Queen last year, the song that made me tear up was, to my surprise, We Are the Champions, specifically the We’ll keep on fighting till the end line. Till the very end ;-;
what is your favorite song by 9? (Carl Barat & the Jackals)
V i c t o r y G i n. Possibly my favourite song by a Libertine outside the Libertines!
how did you first get into 2? (The Libertines)
Well, I always knew of the Libs and enjoyed their songs, but frankly back in the day I always assumed they were much too cool for the likes of me to be into, with all the drugs and fighting and chaos. HOW MISLED I WAS. If I’d known what massive nerds they really are, with their 60s comedy and WWI poetry and sweeping romantic declarations, I’d’ve dived in a whole lot sooner, heh. BUT as it was, I saw they were playing at Tramlines festival in my city last year, and as soon as it was announced I knew I had to see them – and then, when I did, it was even better than I expected! Not having paid any attention to them since their reunion, I thought there might be an element of cynically phoning it in, but there absolutely was not, and I knew straight away I was jumping right in and surrendering my soul, haha. Best decision I’ve made in years!
how did you get into 10? (Manic Street Preachers)
Hmm Everything Must Go came out just as I was getting heavily into music, and while I thought it was a good album (and one that’s stood the test of time, too) I was also aware that this was a different Manics to the band who produced their first three albums, and – as is my wont – I became fascinated with their history and their legend and decided I was going to get into their earlier, edgier, hipper albums, cos I can’t be content with the usual way of doing things, can I? Haha. No regrets tho, they’re a band I can feel proud to say I was a fan of.

Our lil group is up and running! The wonderful @suchasinistergame and I have dreamed of creating a creative hub for Libs fans to post all their amazing art works and ideas and writing and creations, and a place we can all work on projects and books and zines and you name it together, as well a space we can archive images, concert photos, videos and just have chats. You can read more about the mission and idea here. Finally the space is ready to join with a lovely banner made by the amazing @azurfemme! Head over and join up and we shall start posting all sorts of things and calling out for project contributors very shortly. As requested it’s currently an open group and we hope to keep it that way.
