I prefer the new version of Waterloo too. Peter’s vocal on the original is just too odd!

It’s so strange and affected, it kind of reminds me of someone, probably from the 60s, but I can’t quite recall who! It’s the same reason I haven’t really been able to bring myself to listen to a lot of their early demos!

boykeats:

On November 4, 1918, Wilfred Owen (b. March 18, 1893) was killed in action. Owen wrote some of the best poetry on World War I, with imagery that unflinchingly details the terrors of trenches and gas warfare. Imbued with confidence from mentor Siegfried Sassoon, much of his poetry also refuses to shy away from his feelings as a gay man. A mere five of his poems were published during his lifetime. When Owen died one week before the Armistice, he was only 25 years old.

Y ;)

Oh bless you 😉

You’re My Waterloo – The Libertines. Of course this has to be my first pick, haha – the very first time I heard this song, before I knew anything about the story behind it, I knew immediately it was a special song and it was going to be important to me. I know that people who’ve been fans for a long time often prefer the older version, but I adore the AFDY arrangement with the piano, that’s part of what really *gets* me about this song. I still sit up and take notice when I hear the first few notes, cos I know it’s still gonna pinch my heart just a lil bit, haha. But it’s the actual best feeling and I don’t remember the last time a single song gave me such intense feelings. …I’ll stop now lol but know I could go on!

You Set The Scene – Love. Much to my shame, I find Love rather over-rated, but this song is excellent. The brass and strings and the flow of the song from section to section is beautiful. Someone gave it to me on a mix tape when I was a teenager and I immediately went and bought Forever Changes, though this is probably the only song I go out of my way to listen to from it now.

You And I – Queen. An underrated album track written by John on A Day at the Races, it’s quite lightweight like a lot of John’s songs but I LOVE the piano arrangement and harmonies, and the guitar solo.

You Never Can Tell – Chuck Berry. Just a bona fide banger innit.

You Won’t See Me – The Beatles. There’s a lot more well-known Beatles songs that begin with Y but this is possibly my fave. Again, I love the piano part – I sound like some kind of piano fetishist here lol but I don’t require piano to enjoy a song, it’s all a coincidence! Great harmonies and use of ooh-la-la-la’s as well – it’s so simple but effective.

(Bonus shout-out for You’re Welcome from Moana. Best. Disney song. Ever.)

Thanks! 😀
