A year ago today @suchasinistergame saw The Libertines for the first time. She heard the call, like many before her, those destined to be collected into what is, most affectionately, a skanky cult of misfits, weirdos, idealists, poets, dreamers, fantasists and artists, both the lost and the found, all of them in search of romance, adventure, freedom and a world to belong to. Also like many before her, she thought this band might be a bit too ‘cool’. Of course then she saw this cursed image, and many like it, and indeed was assured that her soon-to-be heroes are absolutely rubbish dorks of the highest order. Now they’re her dorks, like they’re all of ours, and we all have to live with that. On a personal level, seven months ago Sarah and I started a conversation that basically never stopped. We talk all day, most days – such a rare and lovely ease of words and such delightfully odd commonalities – and I say this because, among the many things this ramshackle fandom has given all of us, the bonds we’ve made, the friends we’ve found, the love we have fallen into, are the greatest gifts of all.
💖💖💖💖💖 Bring on September! I’m so excited to see these dorks together with you!
And because I can’t avoid being flippant for more than five minutes in a row – here’s some tweets 1) from the day before Tramlines, and 2) literally me walking home from the festival having an (accurate) vision of my future.
Today is a special day. One year ago today, I went to Tramlines festival and saw the Libertines for the first time, and I chose immediately to throw myself headlong onto the decks of the Albion. I was ready – it felt right, like something clicking into place that maybe should have years earlier, but this was obviously my time, and I’ve enjoyed this past year SO MUCH, discovering so much music, so many new places, making my own adventures and being completely absorbed by the whole legend around this band. There’s a special spirit and a feeling that permeates like no other, and I can’t explain it, because it’s just a feeling, but it chimes deep and I want to hold onto it for as long as I can. I might’ve taken my time getting here, but I’m just so happy to be in a fandom with such a rich history, and a loyal fanbase that’s made me feel so welcome right from the start. I’ve made such brilliant friends – if you regularly like my posts I probably consider you my friend, haha, but of course I have to give a special mention to my homegirl @jessinthesky, with whom I’ve shared this journey from the exact same moment, including some most memorable adventures (city of culchaaa 💪), and @missoneminute who is the most giving, open and patient friend anyone could wish for, and who has enabled my dizzying immersion into this fandom in every way I could’ve dreamt of – not to mention sharing a spectrum of my interests I never could’ve imagined! I love you gals and can’t wait for the next chapter! ✨🎶💖
I’m so grateful to those boys for everything they’ve done and everything they are and everything they inspire, and for bringing me to this place and together with such great people. The Albion sails on course~
Incidentally, I believe niqistar would like to do some more writing but her job is a bit knackering. Someday soon hopefully! (and I think katie delaney is off being a proper functioning adult 🙂 but remains a fanfic legend <3)
Oh, the rigours of adulthood claim far too many fic authors, how tragic! But I’m thrilled at the prospect that there might be possibly be more niquistar fic in future, and I’m sure others will be too! Thank you for the info 😀
