These things make me laugh because I remember that if you are American or Australian or whatever you must think we are just being polite all the time but really we hate it and the total underlying rudeness of my culture is brilliant.
Is that really what non-British people understand by these phrases though? Does anyone REALLY expect people to come out with things like “I don’t like your idea” or “I disagree and don’t want to discuss this further”? Do those sorts of phrases not lead to massive fights and horrible situations in the workplace?? There’s a reason people use these politeness devices – they don’t want to get punched, sacked, or make someone cry!
