hello! i am an “aspiring” fanfiction writer and i love your stories! i was wondering, you said you love pining. i love it too, and i’m trying to write a fanfiction with this trope but it’s actually complicated to explain *why* the two characters won’t kiss or touch for a while if they’re both in love! would you mind giving me advices? thank you so much!

Hi! Thank you so much for your kind words! And your question is a very good one! I agree, it is very difficult to explain, especially for some pairings – for example, the pining thing doesn’t really work for a pair like Rolipe because I can’t imagine Felipe just keeping his feelings to himself, haha. This is why I quite like the pining to be more one-sided, with one half of the pairing hopelessly in love, and the other more slowly developing or realising their feelings.

In terms of reasons why they might hesitate to get together or show each other how they feel, well, oddly enough recently I’ve been reading a lot of fics where at least one half of the pairing has some trouble dealing with the idea that they might have sexual feelings for someone of the same sex, heh. Or there might be an element of not wanting to be hurt, if they’re unsure of the other person’s feelings, or they’ve been hurt before. Or there might be external circumstances – disapproval of family or peers, imminent big event that means they’d be split up even if they did get together. There’s also the “Oh they’d never be interested in someone like me, and I don’t want to lose them as a friend” line of thinking, or just plain old shyness I suppose! It’s true tho, it does take a bit of work to figure out exactly why they wouldn’t just get together if they like each other, haha. But some boys don’t make it easy 😉
