F1 | Jean Todt asked Massa to become a Race Official

Felipe Massa revealed that he was invited by the president of FIA to consider becoming a Race Official during the GPs and bring his expertise of ex-driver

It would seem that Felipe Massa’s retirement is not set in stone, in case Bottas were to leave Williams in favor of Mercedes, the Brazilian driver may extend his stay in Sir Frank’s team for another season.

Following rumors of Valtteri Bottas being named as the primary candidate to fill Nico Rosberg’s vacant seat, Williams is now looking for a driver to partner with rookie Lance Stroll, and a sensible option may be Felipe Massa.

Despite this promising option for 2017, Massa revealed to UOL Esporte that he received another offer for the 2017 season, by becoming a Race Official during F1 weekends and bring his expertise of ex-driver to the team of Charlie Whiting.

It would appear that the offer came directly from the FIA president, Jean Todt, whom made the offer to Massa to work for the Federation. The offer did not impress the former Williams driver, who doubt whether a position as Race Official is sensible option. Nevertheless, Massa does not exclude the possibility of working for FIA in other roles where his experience as a driver could be an asset.

“He said he wanted me to become a Race Official but it am not sure that it is something I am interested in” said the Brazilian driver about Todt “I could definitely work with FIA and collaborate with the team that takes care of the security and safety measures to protect the driver or something similar to that role. Race Official? I am not so sure”.

Science Side of Tumblr, I need your help!  Ladies of the Science Side of Tumblr, I especially need your help!

I had a conversation at my non-science day job that went like this:

A friend who shall be called Diane (not her real name) comes to my desk to chat.  Just one of the many topics we discuss is that her boyfriend is  taking a class in wildlife biology.  She has decided that she has grown tired of hearing about local wildlife and hearing him recite a plethora of scientific names.

I responded positively to this subject, and told her that I too found the subject interesting.  A third person had heard our conversation.  We shall call her Claire (again, not her real name).  Claire immediately responded, “Girls don’t like that kind of thing.”

“Are you saying that girls don’t like science?” I asked.

“No, not normally they don’t,” she responded.

Before you all screech with anguish, bear with me for a moment.  We all know that this is not true.  As a man, I find this idea upsetting for countless reasons that have all been validly discussed before.  To try to debate the issue is rather moot.  Instead, I’d like a show of hands.

Ladies of the Science Side of Tumblr!  I call you to arms!  Will you rally around me in saying that women can and do indeed love science, of any variety?  Gentleman of the Science Side of Tumblr who know someone who is a girl who also happens to love science, will you stand with me too?  We all like and reblog the pro-women-in-science posts we see so often, let’s all stand and be counted in one place this time.

Reblog this if you are a woman who loves science.  Reblog this if you are a man who knows a woman who loves science.  Let us disprove her beyond all doubt!

FEMALE WHO LOVES SCIENCE OVER HERE

Yes hello, I am a female scientist.

I don’t particularly like science but I like wildlife and scientific names

I can 1000% understand why my fellow Massa fans might not be so enthused for Felipe’s probably return, for emotional or any other reasons. Ngl, I am childishly thrilled to see him in F1/on TV 20 times a year/with Rob for another season – not to mention the fact that it actually fills me with glee that, after YEARS of people writing him out of the sport, and eventually retiring when he effectively became surplus to requirements, it in fact turned out that he was exactly what Williams required after all: experienced both in the sport and the team, offers stability and is a known quantity, and, importantly for a team sponsored by an alcohol brand that has a very specific set of requirements, is over 25 years old

But one thing I naively failed to take into account was that, of course, that entails another year of Felipe getting flak for things entirely out of his control. It’s not Felipe’s fault that Martini wants an older driver than the majority who might be on the market; plus, a lot of the other options are frankly unrealistic anyway. Re-hiring Felipe, even if just for one more year, makes perfect sense right now, but I’m already bracing myself for yet another year of shit-talking from people who were gushing about how much they were going to miss him a month ago – and even more so from those who didn’t even feel that way.

ANYWAY who even knows what 2017 is going to be like? When Felipe announced his retirement, I thought maybe I’d not be as interested, but by the time it actually came around I already knew that wasn’t going to be true, lol. But now, for better or worse, I have an added investment, and it doesn’t even really matter to me (much) if the Williams is shit cos that might make it easier if Felipe is only around for one more year, lol. I’m relatively fresh, I’ve only been dealing with the F1 lyfe for less than 6 years, I can brace myself for one more… right??
